Looking for Suspects

I think I figured out one of the lighting scenarios last week, sometimes less is more.

Raising Kean

I was at Kean University last week. It's a curious place and it is amazing what you can learn by wandering the art building and talking to anyone you meet. I have to admit there is no substitute for an in-person visit and keeping in mind what you don't want to do as opposed to what you want to do. It is a necessity when you vistit other institutions to resist temptation!

Random Act

So my wife drops me off by the Ottauquechee River while she shops. I plug in the IPOD and I'm watching the fish rise. All is right in the world and it starts to rain. OK, I think, I can tolerate this till she comes back for me. then out of nowhere this guy appears and hands me a golf umbrella. He says, "Take this!" and leaves me - refusing to accept anything in exchange. I'm on a mission now, I figure the umbrella must get passed on.

Unbrella anyone?

Fall 2009?

I'm slated to teach History of Photography online in the Fall. I'm genuinely looking forward to this. It is the realization of an effort that began 5 years ago.

Adjunct Conference?

I went to the BCC Adjunct Conference this evening and it was something of a non-event. I have to admit I was grateful for the brevity, but would have preferred to sit it out at home and avoid the cold.

Pittsburgh

This was interesting. And while I always come away from anything Warhol feeling like he had short-changed me I did learn some things here. This is not your typical museum. There is a certain irreverance here.

SPEMA Conference

Some serious tradition at this place. You can almost smell the academic rigor. And while Pittsburgh is a college town, it embraces the blue collar ethic that suurounds and envelops it. One almost expects to see faculty wearing hard hats.

Summit

My former students just continue to impress me. If not with scholarship then with other huge achievements. Pictured here is Jamie Harpster at the Summit of Mount Rainier which he climbed for charity, not just "because its there."

The Fall Semester 2008

As we get ready for the Fall semester I'm reminded of the words of Dean Vernon Wormer, Professor Emeritus at Faber College: "Every Halloween, the trees are filled with underwear. Every spring, the toilets explode."
